As the above area from the west to the heights of Mount Mushi Akhar and Kooh Dareh, from the east to the lands of Afshar and Daran plains, from the south to the heights overlooking the lands of Hadishahr and Talib Goli (the heights of Qala-e-Zir and Qara Goz) and from the north is limited to the heights of Uch Tappeh and the town of Jolfa. The study area in addition to the two towns of Jolfa and Hadishahr, includes the villages of Golfaraj Tazehkand, Aghbolagh, Talib Goli, Heydarabad, Silgerd, Shahmar (Haghverdi Abad), Shoja, Zavieh, Livarjan and Siahsaran.
The main objective of studying the Golfaraj project is to use the water rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran and make maximum use of the water potential of the country's border rivers. As a result, water of around 12450 ha of the Golfaraj Plain and 9850 – 10480 ha in different options of the development plan of Yekanat and Harzandat will be provided. Water supply is carried out by pumping from the Aras River with a capacity of 6 cubic meters per second for 12 months and 20 hours and storing surplus water in non-growing seasons in four dams (Golfaraj, Gordian, Yekanat and Harzandat) with a total volume of 158 million cubic meters and the use of surplus water of Gordian dam (24 million cubic meters) will be by storing in Gordian dam, with the total volume of programmable water of 182 million cubic meters.
